Inspired by our Executive Director Valarie Kaur’s speech at the Federal Building in Los Angeles during the start of militarized raids in the city, singer and author Heidi Rojas wrote this anthem as a reminder that we come from a long line of warriors who used love—our strongest weapon—to conquer hate.
“We Will Fight Back with Flowers” Protest Anthem by Heidi Rojas
Ice raids, airstrikes, talks of war
Stay home, whisper, lock the door
They want us scared, but we’ve been here before
We know love will conquer hate
Push down, break through barricades
Reclaim the rights our ancestors already fought for
We will fight back with flowers
We will rise like the sun
Reawaken our power
With love
With love
My beautiful friend @valariekaur from @revloveproject sent me the is breathtaking photo of herself laying flowers at the feet of law enforcement in front of a deportation facility and I started crying. Some of my rage melted away as I remembered that love is my strongest weapon. So I wrote this little anthem to remind myself that I come from a long line of warriors who used love to conquer hate 💪🏽♥️
