A Magical Night with Alicia Keys

It was the best surprise @AliciaKeys! Thank you for coming to our tour stop — and for all the love you gave us. RevolutionaryLove.org/tour

Beloveds — @aliciakeys’s songs has been a lifeline in the deepest griefs and greatest joys. When we became friends, I realized: Her music is so potent because it carries the energy of WHO she is — Alicia radiates love. She is at home in her skin, sovereign in her soul, and deeply present with her life. That’s how she creates magic wherever she goes.

Alicia spotted the dilruba in a practice room after the show. Before we knew it, we were all tucked into that tiny room, sharing the musical instruments of our Sikh ancestors. @jasvir.rababan’s voice danced with the dilruba. I talked about the path of the #SageWarrior, and @drninjakaur pounded the jori. @qaisessar began to strum the rabab — slow at first, then gathering speed, sending all of us soaring. @iamsonnysingh shared his album that goes with the #SageWarrior book. My children piled into the room. Nine-year-old Kavi played the tanpura — that’s when Alicia began to hum. Time slowed. I closed my eyes. She sang as my son played. And it was as if the music of our ancestors met in that moment —

Our ancestors put their pain into music. It was their alchemy. In a world that shackled them, they rested in the sovereign space inside of them — and made new worlds of liberation through song.

THIS is the work we are devoted to every night on this #RevolutionaryLove Tour — building a world out of story and song and inviting people to inhabit it with us. Look! This is what the whole world can feel like! It is the ultimate reframe: we need more than resistance, we need rebirth.

We can practice the world we want in the space between us.
